From Igls, AUT
(November 20, 2024) – A 28 million Euro construction project at the track in Igls has reached its halfway point. The two-pronged plan for Igls is to both have a new start area for the women’s and doubles luge athletes, and some extra curves at the bottom of the track to add some challenge and fix the issue with sliders smacking the wall on the outrun.
The first half of this project was fully completed with a homologation session with various luge athletes including David Gleisrcher, Madeleine Egle, and the doubles team of Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf all pulling off the top. Per the FIL, the session was a success and the track is ready to go for its World Cup date in December.
Remaining work on the track will begin after the 2024/2025 sliding season ends.
