From Pyeongchang, KOR
(November 15, 2024) – South Korea’s Chanhyuk Yeo slid to a decisive victory in the fourth race of the Asian Cup men’s skeleton program as he held off the previous day’s golf medalist for top honors.
Yeo opened up a .31 second advantage over China’s Wengang Yan, with Taiwan’s Lin-Wei Peng and Korea’s Yeonsu Shin in third and fourth, respetively.
In the second heat, Shin took the lead from China’s Zhongxu Lin and held that lead after Peng couldn’t quite match his first slide’s effort.
Yan, the 2022 Olympic bronze medalist and previous day’s gold medalist, took the lead by just over at tenth from Shin to guarantee another medal.
That left Yeo to go. The Korean, who’d won two medals in the first three races of the season, tied his quick push of the first heat off the top and had the quickest split at every point along the 2018 Olympic track on his way to a .46 second victory over Yan, with Shin in third.
Lin, Peng, and Canada’s Mark Lynch rounded out the top six.
At the halfway point of the eight-race Asian Cup season, Yeo holds the point lead ahead of three World Cup athletes who had competed in the first two races of the season with fields of over 40 athletes. Christopher Grotheer, Mattia Gaspari, and Vladyslav Heraskevych are second through fourth, with Wengang Yan fifth.
Of the athletes who have completed the full four races on the season thus far, Yeonsu Shin is eighth, Lin-Wei Peng 11th, and Zhongxu Lin 1th.
The World Cup takes over in Pyeongchang for the remainder of the weekend before both it and the Asian Cup head to Yanqing.
