From Königssee, Germany
If you had any questions about Lyndon Rush contending for an overall championship this year, at least some of your answers came today in Königssee. Rush sets the fast time in both heats to dominate Round 7 of the FIBT World Cup, making it two wins in a row. Oskars Melbardis put down a solid run after a questionable load to take silver. Francisco Friedrich takes bronze for Germany. Alexander Zubkov hit the wall twice after loading in the sled, but manages to hang on for fourth with a very quick bottom half of the run. Thomas Florschuetz rounds out the top five.
“This is a short track, you expect the times to be close. He [brakeman Jesse Lumsden] dug deep and gave me the best push he could,” said Rush of the Canada I win. Lumsen injured himself in the first heat.
All three American sleds had clean runs, but the speed just wasn’t there. Steven Holcomb led the way in 8th, while Cory Butner finishes 11th and Nick Cunningham finishes 15th. It was a tough day for Great Britain Bobsleigh, as John Jackson finishes tied for 19th, while Lamin Deen finishes 29th. On top of Lyndon Rush’s win, Justin Kripps and Chris Spring finish 10th and 11th for Team Canada.
