From Königssee, Germany
Canadian Lyndon Rush came into Round 7 as the World Cup point leader, and after his first run it doesn’t look like he’s ready to let go. Rush is the only sub-50 second pilot with a 49.98. A heat-fastest push by Oskars Melbardis leaves the Latvia second, just .05 out of the lead. Perennial contender Alexander Zubkov sits third currently, just barely ahead of German Francisco Friedrich, American Steven Holcomb and Swiss Beat Hefti, who round out the top 6.
Cory Butner sits 11th in Heat 1 for the US, with teammate Nick Cunningham 15th. Both are just behind a few other sleds and have potential to move up. On top of Rush’s solid first run, Chris Spring and Justin Kripps are both solidly into the second heat, 10th and 12th respectively. John Jackson of Great Britain will go into the second heat tied for 16th, while teammate Lamin Deen misses the cut, finishing 29th out of the 31 sled field.
