(September 23, 2024) – The International Luge Federation today announced its tentative 2025/2026 Olympic season schedule with nine Eberspächer World Cup dates plus the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
Unlike previous Olympic seasons where the tour has tried to cram their entire season in before the Olympics, the FIL is taking the approach that biathlon, cross country skiing, speed skating and others have taken in years past of holding a handful of events after the Olympics.
The tour will begin its season in Igls, the site of many FIL first round visits. The track there has undergone a significant reconstruction at the cost of somewhere around 28 million Euros and has included a much improved finish area.
From there, the tour will return to North America for its first World Cup events since the 2023/2024 season with races in Park City and Lake Placid just prior to the Christmas break.
After a brief holiday break the tour heads to Sigulda for its final races outside of Germany before heading to Winterberg in what will be the final race for Olympic qualification. Then it’s over to Oberhof for the second of three races in the country.
For what will be one of the most anticipated events on the sliding calendar after the Olympic Games, the third and final race in Germany will take place in Königssee on the track that will be freshly rebuilt after a 2021 storm took out a large portion of the course.
Luge will have its traditional spot as the first sliding sport in the Olympic Winter Games, scheduled for Cortina dʼAmpezzo from February 7 – 12. Afterward, the tour heads across to St. Moritz for the penultimate race on the schedule before finishing things up in Altenberg at the beginning of March.
Off of the schedule from the 2024/2025 season are Pyeongchang, Yanqing, Lillehammer, and the World Championships host Whistler.
Notably absent from the Olympic season calendar is a test event in Cortina dʼAmpezzo. The FIL currently has a pre-homologation event on their 2024/2025 calendar scheduled for the last week of March of 2025 but otherwise there’s currently no plan for a points paying race to be held on the track prior to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
