From Königssee, Germany
There are two certainties in life: It’s going to snow something awful in Königssee on race day, and Latvian Martins Dukurs is going to have the lead in a men’s skeleton race. Today the lead going into Heat 2 is .42 back to German Frank Rommel, who won here last year. It’s less than a tenth of second back to Alexander Tretjyakov and Alexander Kroeckel, who are tied for third. There’s also a tie for fifth, with Tomass Dukurs and Canadian Olympic champion Jon Montgomery.
It’s been a tough trip to Germany for the Americans. Matt Antoine and John Daly both sneak into the second heat in 17th and 18th, while Kyle Tress misses the second heat, finishing just outside the top 20 in 21st. Eric Neilson and John Fairbairn are 10th and 12th for Canada, while Kristan Bromley, Dom Parsons and Ed Smith all are in the second heat for Great Britain, 13th, 14th and 19th respectively.
