From Winterleiten, AUT
(February 18, 2024) – In the closest race of the weekend, Patrick Pigneter came from behind to take victory in the season finale in Winterleiten.
Pigneter entered the second heat in fourth place, a half of a second behind teammates Alex Oberhofer, Fabian Brunner, and Florian Clara.
In the second heat, Pigneter slid to the lead ahead of Michael Scheikl, who finished the race as the top non-Italian in fifth. Pigneter held that lead as neither Clara nor Brunner could match his downtime.
The final slider off was Oberhofer, who was looking for his first podium of the season. But a messy second slide dropped the Italian well out of the medals and into fourth place, handing the victory to Pigneter, with Brunner and Clara in second and third.
Oberhofer finished fourth, .2 ahead of Scheikl in fifth. Switzerland’s Stefan Federer rounded out the top six.
USA’s Torrey Cookman finished 17th, three spots ahead of Mason Palecek in 20th, and four ahead of Leonard Pizziola in 21st.
Pigneter took the season title, ahead of Brunner and Clara. Michael Scheikl was the top non-Italian in fourth, with Daniel Gruber fifth.
