From La Plagne, FRA
(March 24, 2024) – Christopher Stewart and Arturs Klots tied for gold in the final race of the 2023/2024 IBSF Para Sport World Cup, while Corie Mapp took the overall title with a bronze medal run.
Stewart led the race after one heat, with Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer and USA’s Austin Parker both contending for medals behind him.
In the second heat Klots threw down a big second run, the fastest of the heat and only .02 off his first run time to take the lead. From there, neither Mapp, Parker, or Ellmauer could keep up with the Latvian.
Finally it was Stewart’s time for a second run. Like most, he couldn’t match his first run speed. But his second slide was enough to match Klots, with both men tying for gold.
Klots’s gold was his fourth of the season and 11th gold of his career. For Stewart, the gold was his sixth, but just his second outside of St. Moritz.
Mapp’s bronze was the 34th medal of his career.
Ellmauer finished fourth, once again just out of the medals, this time by .04. Balk, the previous day’s winner, finished fifth, while Italy’s David Jennewein finished sixth.
Parker, who was looking for his first medal of the season, finished seventh. Teammates Guillermo Castillo and David Christopher finished 11th and 14th respectively.
Mapp’s bronze was enough to give the Brit the season title, 51 points ahead of Klots. Balk finished the season in third, just ahead of Stewart and Ellmauer.
