Ro Wins First Career World Cup Gold, Bos Wins Title

From Lake Placid, USA

(March 21, 2024) – Mystique Ro had a breakout 2023/2024 season that she capped in Lake Placid with her first career World Cup win.

Ro was unmatched in the first heat with the quickest start of the heat and the quick time at every split along the way to take a .08 second lead over World Cup point leader Kimberley Bos, with Kim Meylemans in third, .15 back.

Meylemans took the lead from American Katie Uhlaender with what would be the quick run of the second heat, and then held that spot as Bos slid to second place with only Ro to go.

Ro’s second start was even quicker than her first, and while her final few curves were off the pace of Meylemans, she was able to keep ahead by just .02 to take gold, with Meylemans second and Bos third.

Ro’s win gave her four medals in her World Cup debut season where she finished in the top eight in all but two races.

“This is really special,” Ro said of her win. “Just being away for so long and coming back and ending the season with such an amazing crowd and an amazing support system!”

For Meylemans, her silver was her second in three races.

Bos’s bronze gave her seven straight top six finishes and was enough to give her the 2023/2024  season title ahead of Meylemans and Italy’s Valentina Margaglio, who finished sixth in the race.

Just off of the podium was the United States’ Katie Uhlaender in fourth place, .05 ahead of Jacqueline Pfeifer in fifth.

The United States put three of four sliders in the top ten, with Sara Roderick scoring a season-best ninth place finish. Michelle Toukan was the first slider out of the top 25 in 26th.

Great Britain’s Tabitha Stoecker finished eighth, with teammate Freya Tarbit in a tie for 15th with Germany’s Tina Hermann. Amelia Coltman finished 29th after popping the groove in the first heat.

Canada’s Jane Channell finished 10th, a few spots ahead of Hallie Clarke in 13th.

Bos and Meylemans had all but wrapped up their first and second overall finishes coming into the day’s events, but Margaglio needed to finish just ahead of Flock to finish third overall, and she did just that with Flock in seventh.

Flock finished the year in fourth place, with Tina Hermann fifth overall.
