From Lake Placid, USA
(March 9, 2024) – Youngjin Suk and his crew had a pair of top three starts on their way to a victory over Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti in the first of two four-man races in Lake Placid.
Suk’s team was out-started by Bindilatti’s squad in the first heat, but Suk’s slide was a tick better, enough to open up a .12 second lead after the first heat. Behind them, NAC point leader Pat Norton and USA’s Geoff Gadbois were tied for third, .29 back.
Int he second heat, Germany’s Max Illman slid his team into the lead and held it ahead of both Norton and Gadbois, with Norton wedging himself in between the German and the American.
Bindilatti was up next, and slid to the lead, .16 ahead of Illmann on the strength of a race-quickest start.
Suk’s team matched that start, a 5.31, and Suk had the quick time at every split on his way to a .43 second victory over Bindilatti.
Dating back to the 2022/2023 season, Youngjin Suk has won three straight NAC four-man races. For Bindilatti, he’s scored silver in three straight four-man races also dating back to the previous season.
Illmann’s bronze was his first NAC medal.
Nortn finished fourth, .11 out of the medals, and .17 ahead of Gadbois in fifth.
The United States’ Kris Horn rounded out the top six.
Monaco’s Boris Vain finished seventh in his first start as a pilot on the North American track.
