From Lake Placid, USA
(March 7, 2024) – Jinsu Kim won a decisive gold in the North American Cup two-man bobsled season finale in Lake Placid ahead of a pair of Americans fighting for silver.
Kim and brakeman Kyungyeon Lee had the second quickest push in the first heat, behind only Kris Horn and Josh Williamson, and slid to a .28 second lead ahead of Geoff Gadbois and Collin Storms, with Horn and Williamson in third.
In the second heat Gadbois was picked off by Horn by just a hundredth of a second, which kept Horn in the lead with only Kim to go. Once again, Kim’s start was second only to Horn’s, and Kim’s slide was by far the quickest of the heat. Kim’s two drives were the two quickest of the race on his way to a .93 second victory over Horn, with Gadbois third, .94 back.
Kim’s victory was his third win in the last four NAC two-man races, while Horn’s silver was his third straight and fourth in his last fifth races.
The team of Youngjin Suk and Jaehwan So finished fourth, a full second behind Gadbois and nearly two seconds behind Kim. Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti and Edson Martins finished fifth, with Canada’s Pat Norton and Keaton Bruggeling sixth.
The United States placed all four of their sleds in the top ten. Grady Mercer and Brandon Jetter finished ninth, one spot ahead of teammates Shane Fisher and Timothy Monroe in tenth.
Canada’s Jay Dearborn and Kenny-Luketa M’Pindou finished 13th, two spots ahead of teammates Cyrus Gray and Cesar de Guzman.
Israel’s Adam Edelman and Ran Fawarse finished 11th.
Horn’s silver medal was enough to clinch the season’s NAC two-man title ahead of Kim. Edelman finished the year in third, just ahead of Norton and Gadbois.
