From Oberhof, GER
(February 18, 2024) – On Sunday the FIL World Cup held the second Sprint World Cup event of the season in Oberhof. Below are the results.
Men’s Luge
Max Langenhan, winner of seemingly everything over the last year, finally won a gold medal on his home track in Oberhof. Langenhan, the penultimate slider off the top, took the lead from Wolfgang Kindl by .033 with only Jonas Müller to go.
Müller, the previous day’s World Cup winner, were neck-and-neck with Langenhan for the bulk of his run, but finished .024 behind Langenhan, and .009 ahead of Kindl.
Felix Loch was edged out of the final medal position and finished fourth, ahead of David and Nico Gleirscher, who finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Tucker West finished 12th, while Alexander Ferlazzo finished 14th.

Men’s Doubles
Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz won from the 13th starting spot in the men’s doubles Sprint World Cup event as the broke the track record to take gold.
The German duo edged out Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl by .022 to take gold, their first of the season. Steu and Kindl finished second, well ahead of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who took bronze.
Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf tok fourth, ahead of Moritz Jäger and Valentin Steudte in fifth and Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher in sixth.
Zack DiGregorio and Sean Hollander finished 11th, while Dana Kellogg and Frank Ike finished 14th.
The top six all finished under the old track record of 26.195 set by Eggert and Benecken.

Women’s Doubles
Selina Egle and Lara Kipp stayed perfect on the Sprint World Cup season with a track record victory over the previous day’s World Cup winners Dajana Eitberger and Saskia Schirmer.
The German duo beat out Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer by just .002 for silver, with the Italians taking bronze.
Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal finished fourth, just out of the medals, while Chevonne Forgan and Sophie Kirkby took another top five. Anda Upite and Kitija Bogdanova took sixth.
USA’s Maya Chan and Reannyn Weiler finished seventh.

Women’s Luge
Julia Taubitz slid to a relatively big victory over friend Natalie Maag for her second Sprint World Cup gold of the season.
Maag took her first World Cup medal of the season near-misses with a silver, ahead of Anna Berreiter who took bronze.
Berreiter edged out Merle Fräbel for the final medal spot, while Latvia’s Kendija Aparjode finished fifth. Emily Sweeney finished sixth.
Ashley Farquharson slipped into the top ten in ninth, while Summer Britcher took 13th.
