(February 17, 2024) – Tobias Paur and Andreas Hofer edged out Matthias and Peter Lambacher to win gold in the penultimate race of the 2023/2024 World Cup season.
Paur and Hofer had the slowest start of the competition, and trailed Peter and Dominik Neupauer halfway down their run. However, the Italian duo had the quickest bottom half of the track to take the lead.
Following Paur and Hofer, Maxmilian Pichler and Nico Edlinger couldn’t keep pace with Pauer and Hofer, leaving only World Cup point leaders Matthias and Peter Lambacher between Paur and Hofer and gold.
The Lambachers were quick off the top, and had the lead most of the way through their run. However, Pauer and Hofer’s bottom part of the run was just quicker than the Lambachers’s, and enough to take gold by .27 over the Lambachers.
It was the first ever World Cup win for Pauer and Hofer.
The Neupauers finished third, ahead of Pichler and Edlinger and Bine Mekina and Simon Dietz, who rounded out the top five.
With one race to go in the FIL World Cup, Matthias and Peter Lambacher lead Maxmilian Pichler and Nico Edlinger by 70 points. Tobias Paur and Andreas Hofer are third, with Peter and Dominik Neupauer fourth and Bine Mekina and Simon Dietz fifth.
