From Altenberg, Germany
The two most local sliders are the current leaders in Altenberg. Germans Thomas Florschuetz and Francisco Friedrich lead Canadian Lyndon Rush going into the second heat. Manuel Machata currently sits fourth, with Great Britain’s John Jackson and Italy’s Simone Bertazzo tied for fifth. Just .74 separates Florschuetz from the tie for fifth.
Once again, rain has played some factor in the race, though unlike the women’s skeleton race yesterday it’s been a very steady rain, leaving track conditions similarly awful for most everyone.
None of the American, Russian or Swiss sleds made the trip, choosing to train in St. Moritz this week instead. With less than 20 sleds taking a first time, everyone will run the second heat.
