Leipold Leads EC German 1-2 in Igls

(February 9, 2024) – Corinna Leipold won the penultimate race of the women’s skeleton Europe Cup season in a one-heat race in Igls.

Leipold outslid teammate Viktoria Dönicke by .27 to take her fifth gold medal on the 2023/2024 Europe Cup season. Dönicke’s silver was her first on the season after a number of top five finishes.

Great Britain’s Isabella Fassnidge finished third for the first bronze medal of her career.

Germany missed out on a podium sweep by .02, with Viktoria Hansova in fourth, just behind Fassnidge.

Ashlyn Bland finished fifth for Great Britain, while Italy’s Alessandra Fumagalli tied for sixth with China’s Yanqi Zhu from the 24th starting spot.

The United States’ Michelle Toukan had the fourth quickest start in a 12th place finish.

The race was limited to one heat due to an issue with one of the shades falling into the track.
