From Bludenz, AUT
(January 18, 2024) – Alina Bräutigam set the two fastest downtimes of the race in a dominating victory in Bludenz as part of a German sweep of the Junior World Cup podium.
Bräutigam opened up a nearly three tenths of a second lead over teammate Laura Koch after the firs heat. Helena Trampe was third, with Mona Schmidt the only non-German in the top five.
In the second heat, Germany’s Josephine Buse put down a competitive run to slide into the lead from fifth. She then picked off Schmidt, Trampe, and Koch to put herself in position for a silver medal.
Bräutigam’s second slide wasn’t as quick as her first, and not as far ahead as anyone else’s slide, but was still more than enough to give her a gold medal by .421 over Buse, with Koch in third over a half of a second back.
Bräutigam’s gold medal was her first of the season and third medal overall. Buse’s silver came in her first race of the season, while the bronze for Koch was her second straight medal after a victory in Winterberg.
Trampe took fourth, just over a tenth off of the podium. Schmit finished fifth as the lone non-German in the top six, while Anka Jänicke rounded out the top six.
Sophia Gordon was the top American in the field in 11th. Teammate Brianna Gosnell finished 14th.
