From Bludenz, AUT
(January 19, 2024) – Marco Leger dominated the men’s singles Junior World Cup event in Bludenz to win his third gold medal of the 2023/2024 sliding season.
Leger had the quick start in both heats, and on a short, relatively flat track that plus a pair of clean slides was enough to win handily.
Leger had a close lead over Austria’s Noah Kallan after the first heat. But Kallan had trouble late in his second run and while it was enough to hold his position, it left the door wide open for Leger.
Leger’s second slide nearly matched his first and was more than enough to win gold.
Kallan, the previous race winner, won silver. American Aidan Mueller came into the second heat but threw down a big second run, second only behind Leger, to take bronze.
Germany’s Hans Fritzsch was the first slider off the podium in fourth, only .023 behind Mueller. Germany’s Jannes Degenhardt and Luca Theile finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The United States placed three sliders in the top ten. Matthew Greiner finished seventh, while Seth Coates finished 10th. Logan Barnes closed out a good day for the United States in 12th.
Grayson Laugher finished 13th, while New Zealand finished 19th.
