From Altenberg, Germany
Smaller field than normal for the women in bobsled, with only 13 teams taking the start in Heat 1. Kaillie Humhpries hasn’t lost in just about a year, but has stiff competition from the local hero Cathleen Martini. Martini will go into Heat 2 .25 ahead of Humphries, making this the biggest deficit that the Canadian world champion has faced this year. Paula Walker will go into the second heat in the bronze medal position, with stiff competition from the other two German sleds behind her.
The Americans are in St. Moritz training for the World Championships later this year, along with the Russian teams.
