From Umhausen, AUT
(January 19, 2024) – Matthias and Peter Lambacher continued their great start to the 2023/2024 World Cup season with a win over Italian teammates Tobias Paur and Andreas Hofer.
In one of the closer one-heat races of the season in doubles luge, Paur and Hofer took the lead from the second starting spot and held it until the Lambachers set off from the top of the track in Austria.
The Lambachers had the quickest start of the competetion, .18 ahead of Paur and Hofer. While both Italian duos were quick, Paur and Hofer’s slide was actually a quick better, but just not quite enough to make up the start differential, with Lambacher and Lambacher taking gold by .11.
It was the third straight victory for Matthias and Peter Lambacher to start the year. For Paur and Hofer, the silver was their second medal in as many events.
The Austrian team of Maxmilian Pichler and Nico Edlinger finished a distant third, 1.15 seconds back, while German duo of Bine Mekina and Simon Dietz finished 2.17 back in fourth.
Peter and Dominik Neupauer finished fifth.
