(January 12, 2024) – Corinna Leipold led a German sweep of the top five positions in Lillehammer on Friday in a one-heat race.
Germany’s Sarah Schwab took the lead from Switzerland’s Carolin Andrä and held it until Leipold’s trip down the track. From there athlete after athlete in the 21 woman field tried but could not match Leipold’s effort, as the German took gold, her fourth of the season.
Hanna Staub finished second, just .09 off the pace, while Viktoria Hansova finished third, .05 bhind Staub.
Schwab and Stefanie Votz took fourth and fifth, respectively, and completed the German sweep of the top five.
Austria’s Annia Unterscheider finished sixth as the top non-German, .3 behind Votz and .3 ahead of Great Britain’s Isabella Fassnidge in seventh.
Ashlyn Bland finished 13th on the second British sled, while the United States’ Michelle Toukan finished 14th.
The second heat of the race was canceled after the track’s timing system stopped working.
With two races to go in the Europe Cup women’s skeleton season, Germany holds the top five positions. Leipold leads Hansova by 48 points, with Staub in third. Schwab and Votz round out the top five. Siji Song is the top non-German in sixth for China.
