From Winterberg, Germany
The first two days of sliding in Winterberg had perfect weather for really quick times. Today, on the other hand, is the Winterberg we all know and love. Lots of snow, lots of wind, but at least a fairly consistent track.
In Saturday’s two-man race, Max Arndt was disqualified for leaving the start area too quickly. Today he goes into the second heat as the leader, only .01 ahead of World Cup leader Alexander Zubkov. Swiss slider Beat Hefti refused to drive four-man last year, and sits third in his first World Cup four-man race in a while. There’s only a tenth of a second between Hefti in third and Dmitry Abramovitch in seventh, with Thomas Florschuetz, Oskars Melbardis and Steven Holcomb all wedged in between.
Americans Nick Cunningham and Cory Butner continue to learn on their first full European swing, with Cunningham going into Heat 2 in 12th, while Butner missing the second heat in 23rd. Equally interesting set of runs for the Canadians, with Justin Kripps leading the way for Canada in 10th after finishing on his side. Lyndon Rush is 16th and Chris Spring missing the second heat in 22nd, after both sliders beat and bumped their way down the track. A great push and clean run for John Jackson puts the British slider in eighth.
