From Winterberg, GER
(December 15, 2023) – Lukas Nydegger led a sweep of the men’s skeleton podium in Winterberg for his first win of the season.
Nydegger was never seriously touched during his two heats despite start times that were in the middle of the pack. After the first run he had a .31 second advantage over teammate Cedric Renner, and while the contenders’ second runs were much more competitive the damage had already been done as Nydegger won by .43 over teammate Cedric Renner.
The gold for Nydegger was his first on the Europe Cup since 2019, as he’d been sliding on the now defunct Intercontinental Cup for the past few seasons.
Renner finished second, just .03 ahead of teammate Stefan Röttig, who won bronze.
China’s Wenqiang Geng and Qinwei Lin finished fourth and fifth, with Lin setting the quick start in both heats.
Great Britain’s Laurence Bostock finished sixth. Kane Densley and Patrick Atkin finished out the British effort in 13th and 18th, respectively.
Canada’s Blake Enzie had a strong pair of runs to put himself in the top ten from the 32nd starting spot in the first heat. Teammate David Park scored a second run and moved up from 25th to 22nd with his second run, while Jordan Rwiyamilira finished 31st in his first trip to Winterberg.
Nick Tucker was the top American in 14th. He moved up from 17th in the first heat in what was his first look at the track in Winterberg. Teammate Hunter Williams was two spots back in 16th.
