(December 6, 2023) – Maureen Zimmer won her first Europe Cup gold of the two-woman bobsled season, beating two-time winner Kati Beierl for top honors.
Zimmer took a .13 second advantage over Beierl after one run, with the two ahead of Switzerland’s Inola Blatty in third.
On the second run, Blatty took the lead with Beierl and Zimmer to go to win her first international two-woman bobsled medal.
Beierl went next, and for the third time in as many races to start the two-woman season she slid to a medal, taking the lead with just Zimmer to go.
Zimmer, the reigning junior world champion, nearly matched her first run and took gold, her first of the season in two-woman bobsled.
Beierl finished second, .36 back, with Blatty winning her first career medal in two-woman with a bronze.
Belgium’s Kelly van Petegem finished fourth, .12 out of the medals, while Switzerland’s Debora Annen fifth.
Great Britain’s Adele Nicoll finsihed sixth.
Great Britain put both sleds in the top ten with Nikki McSweeney in tenth.
After three races in the Europe Cup season, Beierl has a 46 point lead over Annen, with Blatty in third. Nicoll sits fourth, and Van Petegem in fifth.
