(December 5, 2023) – Austria’s Kati Beierl won her second straight two-woman bobsled race to start the Europe Cup two-woman season.
Beierl, alongside brakewoman Isabela Indruchova, finished their first run .07 ahead of Switzerland’s Debora Annen and Julie Maria Leuenberger, with Maureen Zimmer and Lauryn Siebert in third.
In the second heat Zimmer leapfrogged Annen to hold onto the lead with only Beierl to go. Like the first heat, Beierl had the quickest run of the heat to win gold, her second in as many races.
The gold for Beierl continued a streak of seven straight Europe Cup medals, six of which were gold.
Zimmer’s silver was her her eighth straight Europe Cup medal, for Annen the bronze was her second to start her international two-woman career.
Swiss pilot Inola Blatty finished fourth, only .04 out of the medals.
Great Britain’s Adele Nicoll finished fifth to continue her strong start to the season, with Germany’s Charlotte Candrix rounding out the top six.
Nikki McSweeney helped put two British sleds in the top ten with a ninth place effort.
Italy’s Simona de Silvestro crashed in her second run but finished the run and finished 18th.
