From Whistler, CAN
(December 2, 2023) – Tirza Lara won her second straight IBSF North American Cup women’s skeleton race, edging out teammate Grace Dafoe for top honors.
Dafoe led Lara by .26 after the first run, with South Korea’s Seokju Yang back in third place. In the second heat Yang took the lead ahead of USA’s Logan Wudi with Lara and Dafoe to go.
Lara’s second run was the quickest of the race, and enough to take nearly a full second lead over Yang. That left Dafoe, who had a strong push and a good slide. Late in the run Dafoe had a small hiccup that was enough to scrub off enough time to hand Lara the win by just .03.
Lara’s win gave Canada a sweep of the gold medals in Whistler in men’s and women’s skeleton.
Logan Wudi’s fourth place was her second straight. South Korea’s Sujung Hong and Hannah Russwurm tied for fifth.
