Röttig Leads German 1-2 in Bludenz

From Bludenz, AUT

(December 1, 2023) – Germany’s Stefan Röttig edged out teammate Cedric Renner to win the IBSF Europe Cup skeleton opener in Bludenz.

Röttig trailed Renner by .04 after the first heat despite out-starting his teammate by .08, with Great Britain’s Laurence Bostock in third only .05 back.

In the second heat Bostock had trouble on the back half of the 700 meter track and fell well out of medal contention, leaving the battle for gold between Röttig and Renner.

Röttig’s second effort was quicker than his first, and enough to take the lead by nearly .2 over China’s Wenqiang Geng. That left Renner between Röttig and gold.

Renner’s start matched his first and his splits were close to his first but he just wasn’t quite able to keep pace with Röttig as Röttig tolk gold by .05 over Renner.

Geng leaped up from fourth to win bronze, while Pietro Drovanti scored a career-best finish in fourth.

Great Britain’s Kane Densley and Germany’s Lukas Nydegger rounded out the top six.

Bostock fell back to ninth after issues in his second heat.

America’s Nick Tucker finished 17th in his first start outside of North America, while teammate Hunter Williams finished three spots back in 20th.
