Del Duca Sweeps NAC 2-man Races in Lake Placid

(November 16, 2023) – Frank Del Duca once again was the class of the field in Lake Placid as he and brakeman Manteo Mitchell cruised to a nearly half second victory over Jinsu Kim.

Del Duca used a pair of competitive starts with the help of Mitchell to open up a first-run .26 second advantage over Kim, the previous day’s silver medalist. On the second run Kim easily slid into the lead with only Del Duca to go.

Del Duca once again had the quickest splits by midway down the track and easily took gold by .49 over Kim.

Kim and brakeman Suhyun Chun had the two fastest pushes of the competition on their way to their silver medal, over a half of a second ahead of USA’s Geoff Gadbois and brakeman Carsten Vissering.

Like the three pilots before him, USA’s Kris Horn and Canada’s Pat Norton matched their previous day’s results with a fourth and fifth place finish respectively.

AJ Edelman rounded out the top six for Israel.

Australia’s Cam Scott, USA’s Grady Mercer, and Israel’s Aaron Sipiopoulos rounded out the nine sleds that crossed the finish line in both heats, while Hyeonggeun Kim crashed in his second run and did not finish.

The start for Mercer was his first in international competition.

The IBSF North American Cup bobsled program continues in Lake Placid with four-man bobsled before making its way to Whistler in early December.
