You can learn a lot about a man from what he Tweets. Just before his second run, Steven Holcomb posted: “To clarify, would it be better to attack from the back, or just lay down a smoker and make everybody catch up?” He’s clearly got the first one figured out.
Holcomb and teammate Cory Butner went into the second heat both out of the medals, but by the end of run number two, Holcomb had his second two-man gold, and Butner his second two-man silver. A tough wreck by Lyndon Rush (who came into the second heat 2nd) opened the door, and a relatively slow second run for Oskars Melbardis let the Americans walk right through. Francisco Friederich took his German sled to a third place finish.
Nick Cunningham had an adventurous day, finishing the first heat 20th but putting down a solid second run to bump up to 15th. It was a mixed day for the Canadians, with Chris Spring finishing fifth, but Rush’s crash, coupled with an average set of runs for Kripps left Team Canada on the outside looking in.
