From Lake Placid, USA
(March 25, 2023) – Mystique Ro cruised to gold in her first North American Cup race in two years as she beat the field by over a second and a half.
Ro had the quick start in both heats. In the first heat she opened up a .93 second advantage over Great Britain’s Freya Tarbit, with Tarbit’s teammate Amelia Coltman in third, 1.15 behind Ro.
In the second heat it was more of the same, with Ro throwing down the second quickest run of the race to win by 1.62 over Tarbit, with Coltman over two seconds off of Ro’s pace.
The gold for Ro was her sixth on the season across three tours and came in her first North American Cup start in roughly two years.
Tarbit and Coltman gave Great Britain silver and bronze medals in what was their first ever races in Lake Placid.
USA’s Michelle Toukan finished fourth, .16 out of the medals, while Canada’s Natalie Coughlin and Tirza Lara finished fifth and sixth respectively.
USA’s Logan Wudi finished seventh in her first international competition, while Malta’s Shannon Galea and Thailand’s Karuna Paenmuek rounded out the nine sled field.
With one race to go in the North American Cup season, Canada’s Lara Tirza leads teammate Natalie Coughlin by 13 points, with Shannon Galea in third overall. Those three will win the top three overall spots on tour, but could finish in any order on Sunday.
