From Igls, Austria
The first round of Europa Cup sliding had a definite “World Cup” feel to it with two heavyweights in the two-man world going at it. Beat Hefti put down two very solid runs, but the Swede couldn’t top Germany’s Thomas Florschuetz. Florschuetz and Listner set the fast time in both heats, winning by .29 over Hefti. Hefti’s teammate Gregor Baumann takes the bronze medal for Round 1.
Great Britain had a solid second run out of Lamin Deen, as Deen and Matthews set fifth fastest time in the second heat to jump two spots to 8th. The second British team of Golder and Simons finished 16th.
