From Winterberg, GER
(February 18, 2023) – France’s Margot Boch edged out Germany’s Maureen Zimmer to win gold in Winterberg.
In the one-heat race, Boch and brakewoman Talia Solitude put down the quick start of the race to that point and Boch slid into the lead, well ahead of anyone else.
Zimmer, the junior world champion, was next off the top. She and Janika Baarck were the quickest of the race off the top, and Zimmer had the fast split at every interval. But at the end, Zimmer fell behind Boch by .06 to move into second place.
No one in the field could match the French pilot’s time from there as she won her third race of the season.
Zimmer took silver, while Australia’s Bree Walker won bronze on her home track with a great push by Sarah Blizzard.
USA’s Nicole Vogt and Emily Renna had two strong starts on their way to a fourth place finish, Vogt’s best ever finish at any level in Europe. Germany’s Diana Filipszki and Austria’s Lea Haslwanter rounded out the top six.
USA put all three sleds in the top ten, as Riley Compton finished ninth and Sylvia Hoffman tenth.
