Taubitz Slides to Winterberg Gold

Taubitz led the race after the first heat, up just over a tenth on Austria’s Hannah Prock, with USA’s Emily Sweeney and German teammates Anna Berreiter and Dajana Eitberger also in the hunt for medals.

On the second run it was Berreiter who set the quick run of the heat, and that was enough to move her from fourth in the first heat into the medals. She held her lead as both Sweeney and Prock dropped behind her, with only Taubitz to go.

Like many of the sliders in the second heat, Julia Taubitz was a tick slower than her first run. And while her second run wasn’t even the quickest of the heat it was enough to hold onto for a gold medal.

Berreiter took silver, while Sweeney maintained her first run position and won bronze.

Eitberger moved up from fifth in the first heat to finish fourth, ahead of Prock who fell back to fifth. Merle Fräbel helped put all four German sleds in the top six with her sixth place effort.

Ashley Farquharson had two consistent slides on her way to a 14th place finish, up from 15th in the first heat.

With three races to go in the overall FIL World Cup calendar, Julia Taubitz holds a 65 point lead over Dajana Eitberger, with Anna Berreiter in third. Madeleine Egle and Emily Sweeney round out the top five in the overall standings.
