From Deutschnofen, ITA
(February 11, 2023) – Patrick and Matthias Lambacher slid to their first FIL World Championship in Deutschnofen as part of an Italian 1-2.
The Lambachers opened up a .04 second advantage over teammates and defending world champs Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara. On their second run, the defending champions slid nearly a half second quicker to take the lead, well ahead of Slovenia’s Matevz Vertelj and Vid Kralj.
The Lambachers were the final team to go. Looking to avenge their loss in the pervious world championships, they set the quick start time of the race on their second run, and had the quickest split of anyone all race. As they crossed the line, they found themselves as the new world champions by .28 over Pigneter and Clara.
The win for the Lambachers was the culmination of a season where they’d won more times than they hadn’t, by far the most successful of their career.
Pigneter and Clara took silver, while Vertelj and Kralj took bronze.
Italy’s Anton Gruber Genetti and Hannes Unterholzner finished well out of the medals in fourth place, ahead of Slovakia’s Gabriel Halcin and Dominik Neupauer in fifth.
