Degenhardt & Rosenthal Cruise to Winterberg Gold

(February 11, 2023) – Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal made it look easy in Winterberg’s women’s doubles luge event: They set the track record in the first heat, nearly matched it on their second run and won by .220 over the Austrian team of Selina Egle and Lara Kipp.

The German duo set both the start record and track record on their first run. Their second run, while a tick slower, was just as clean and quick as they put down the two fastest times ever in Winterberg on their way to their first gold medal of the season.

Behind the Germans, Egle and Kipp were able to overtake Italy’s Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer with a very clean and quick second run to win silver, with the Italians easily winning bronze.

Latvia’s Anda Upite and Sanija Ozolina finished fourth, just ahead of Italy’s Nadia Falkensteiner and Annalena Huber. USA’s Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby rounded out the top six, with teammates Maya Chan and Reannyn Weiler one spot back in seventh.

Forgan and Kirkby did break the start record set in the first heat by Degenhardt and Rosenthal with their second effort.

With three events to go in the women’s doubles 2022/2023 season, Vötter and Oberhofer hold a 70 point lead over Egle and Kipp. The German duo of Degenhardt and Rosenthal are 99 points out of the lead in third.
