From Altenberg, GER
(February 4, 2023) – Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken edged out teammates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt to win gold in Altenberg.
Eggert and Benecken held a small .035 lead over Wendl and Arlt after the first heat. On the second run Wendl and Arlt put down a time that was, to that point, the fastest of the competition. Eggert and Benecken answered with a second run nearly identical to Wendl and Arlts which was enough to slide to a gold medal, their third of the season.
Wendl and Arlt finished with a silver medal, also their third on the season.
Latvia’s Martins Bots and Roberts Plume, while never factor in the battle for gold, were also well ahead of anyone else behind them as they cruised to a bronze medal.
Germany’s Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz finished the race in fourth, ahead of Austria’s Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher and Italy’s Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner, who rounded out the top six.
USA’s Zack Digregorio and Sean Hollander finished in ninth, while teammates Dana Kellogg and Duncan Segger finished 13th.
Canada’s team of Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski finished in 12th.
With four races to go (one sprint and three full) in the World Cup season, Eggert and Benecken hold a mere one point lead over Wendl and Arlt. Bots and Plume sit third, still within reach of the leaders.
