(February 3, 2023) – After two runs in the two-woman bobsled IBSF World Championships, Lisa Buckwitz holds a slim lead over teammates Kim Kalicki and Laura Nolte.
Buckwitz and brakewoman Kira Lipperheide opened up a .13 second lead over Kalicki, with Nolte .18 out of the lead in third. On the second run of the race Kalicki and brakewoman Leonie Fiebig out-pushed Buckwitz and Lipperheide for the second time and slid into the lead with only Buckwitz to go.
Buckwitz’s second run wasn’t bad, but it was off of Kalicki’s pace. As Buckwitz crossed the line she was still the leader, but only by .05 over Kalicki, with Nolte back in third, just .14 out of the lead.
The United States’ Kaillie Humphries and Kaysha Love sit fourth overnight, but only .29 out of the lead and .15 out of the medals.
Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler and brakewoman Nadja Pasternack are fifth overnight after setting the quick run of the second heat. They leapfrogged Maureen Zimmer, who had a rough second run to fall well out of medal contention.
Cynthia Appiah ended the second heat in 11th place, but has a few woman ahead of her who she can overtake in the second day. Teammate Bianca Ribi was .45 quicker in her second drive to finish the day in 14th.
USA’s Nicole Vogt had two very consistent runs to end the day in 12th place, while Riley Compton picked up .3 on her second run to finish the day in 17th.
