From Oberhof, GER
(January 29, 2023) – After a day of German domination in Oberhof, Jonas Müller held off a hot Max Langenhan to win his first FIL World Championship title.
Müller opened up a narrow lead over teammate David Gleirscher in the first heat, with Langenhan and Felix Loch both in contention for the gold.
In the second heat Loch slid into the lead with Langenhan, GLeirscher and Müller to go. Langenhan was next, and the German not just slid into the lead, but then picked off Gleirscher to hang onto the lead with only Müller to go.
Müller needed a big second run to hold off Langenhan and he had just that. His second run was just under .05 quicker to win his first career FIL World Championship gold.
Langenhan finished second, only .104 back, while Gleirscher finished with a bronze.
Felix Loch was fourth, only .024 out of the medals, while Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods finished fifth and Austria’s Wolfgang Kindl rounded out the top six.
Tucker West finished 13th for the United States, two spots ahead of Jonny Gustafson in 15th. Canada’s Dylan Morse finished 28th.
