(January 28, 2023) – Laura Nolte is the halftime leader in the women’s monobob World Championships in St. Moritz after she opened up a .27 second advantage over Kaillie Humphries in the second heat.
The duo was tied after one run, with Breeana Walker behind in third. On Humphries’ second trip down the natural ice she was quick, but a few small mistakes left the door open for Nolte.
Nolte took advantage and set the quickest run of the competition thus far with a 1:10.96 to move into the lead overnight.
“I was already very happy with the first run and was also able to the slightly different conditions in the second run,” Nolte said of her day’s effort.
“I had a few mistakes in the second run, “Humphries said of her second place run. “But my start is getting better with each run and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Germany’s Lisa Buckwitz set the second quickest time in the second heat to pull away from Walker and end the day in third place.
Walker ended the day in fourth place, .13 behind Buckwitz. Canada’s Cynthia Appiah jumped up from seventh in the first heat to finish the day in fifth place, .05 ahead of Swiss slider Melanie Hasler in sixth.
Canada placed both of their sliders in the top ten overnight, with Bianca Ribi in tenth place.
The USA’s Nicole Vogt ended the day in 17th, while Riley Compton finished in 19th.
China’s Qing Ying crashed on her first run, and while she received a downtime she chose to not start the second heat.
