(January 21, 2023) – Max Illmann edged out teammate Nico Semmler to win gold as part of a German sweep of the European Cup podium.
Illmann took a .04 second advantage over Semmler into the second heat. On that second run Semmler put down the quickest run of the second heat to that point. Illmann, however, matched that downtime to win by .04 over Semmler.
Hans Peter Hannighofer, their teammate, finished third as the only other slider within a second of the leaders.
Latvia’s David Kaufmanis and Renars Grantins finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while David Baechler finished sixth.
