From Bludenz, AUT
(January 19, 2023) – Marco Leger won his second race of the FIL Junior World Cup season as he edged Noah Kallan for the top spot.
Leger trailed only Junior World Cup leader Kaspars Rinks of Latvia in the first heat, with the Austrian Kallan just behind him. On the second run Kallan put down a run that would end up being the quickest of the heat. And while Leger couldn’t quite match that time, he was able to slide quick enough to stay ahead of the Austrian.
That left Rinks, the track record holder and leader after the first heat. His second slide was clean and quick through the first few splits. But some trouble in the middle part of his slide dropped him well down the order and to the bottom of the top ten.
That gave the win to Leger, his second. Kallan took silver, his second straight, while Hannes Röder finished with his first bronze of the season.
Italy’s Lukas Peccei finished fourth, ahead of Slovakia’s Christian Bosman who moved up from eighth to fifth. Hans Fritsch finished sixth.
Aidan Mueller, the only American in the field, finished eighth, up from ninth in the first heat.
With one race to go in the men’s Junior World Cup season it’s at two-man race for the title. With his victory, Marco Leger moved into the point lead by 34 points over Kaspars Rinks. Leger can clinch the championship in the final race with a podium finish of any kind.
