From Altenberg, GER
(December 17, 2022) – Lisa Zimmerman and Dorothea Schwarz held off Nadia Falkensteiner and Annalena Huber to win gold in the women’s doubles portion of the Junior World Cup Altenberg stop.
The Austrian duo, making their first Junior World Cup start of the season, held over a tenth of a second advantage over the Italians after the first heat, with Germany’s Elisa-Marie Storch and Elia Reitmeier well back in fourth. On the second run the Austrians were out-paced by the Italians, but only by .03, not nearly enough to take the top spot from Zimmermann and Schwarz.
The silver for Falkensteiner and Huber was their second straight medal. They’d previously won gold in Winterberg.
Storch and Reitmeier moved up from fourth to third after teammates Annika Krause and Magdalena Matschina fell from third on their second run. Latvia’s Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova set the quick time of the second heat to move up from fifth to fourth, while Krause and Matschina finished fifth. Czechia’s Anna Cezikova and Lucie Jansova rounded out the top six.
With two races remaining in the 2022/2023 Junior World Cup season, Latvia’s Viktorija Ziedina and Selina Zvilna lead Germany’s ElisaMarie Storch and Elia Reitmeier by 16 points. Latvia’s Marta Robezniece and Kitija Bogdanova are third.
