From Pyeongchang, KOR
(December 18, 2022) – Great Britain’s Amelia Coltman came from behind to win gold on the 2018 Olympic track in Pyeongchang.
Coltman trailed Germany’s Corinna Leipold by .02 after one run, while 2018 Olympic silver medalist Jacqueline Lölling sat in third, only .07 back.
On the second run Lölling put down another quality run to take the lead with Coltman and Leipold to go. Coltman’s second slide nearly mirrored her first, and was enough to move into the lead by .14 over Lölling.
That left Leipold to go. She matched Coltman’s start ,but fell behind by the first intermediate split. Leipold’s run was clean and quick, but couldn’t match the pace set by the British slider as she slid into second place.
The win for Coltman gave her her first career Intercontinental Cup gold medal. She’d won bronze in the previous two events.
Leipold’s silver was her fourth straight. Lölling’s bronze was her worst finish of the season and broke a three race winning streak.
Germany’s Sarah was the odd-German off the podium in fourth. Belgium Aline Pelckmans finished fifth, while Liechtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann scored a carrer best of sixth.
USA’s Michelle Toukan scored seventh which tied a career ICC best from the prior race. Grace Dafoe also scored a career ICC best with an eighth place finish.
With two races to go in the women’s Intercontinental Cup tour Jacqueline Lölling has a 44 point lead over teammate Corinna Leipold. Amelia Coltman sits third, with Sarah Wimmer and Aline Pelckmans both in the hunt for a season-long top three.
