From Pyeongchang, KOR
(December 17, 2022) – Lukas Nydegger won gold in his first trip to the Alpensia Sliding Centre, beating out teammate Alexander Gassner for the win.
Nydegger opened up a quarter second lead over Austria’s Samy Maier, with Gassner sitting in third, .31 off the pace. In the second heat it was Gassner putting down a strong slide to move into the lead, bypassing Maier with just Nydegger to go.
Nydegger’s second run, while not as fast as his first, was still quicker than anyone else’s run of the day and plenty enough to give him gold in his first ever trip to Pyeongchang.
Gassner took silver, while Great Britain’s Craig Thompson moved up from fourth to win bronze.
Maier finished fourth, while Felix Seibel finished fifth on the third German sled.
Denmark’s Rasmus Johansen rounded out the top six.
Jacob Salisbury finished just out of the top six in seventh, while Canada’s Mark Lynch finished eighth. David Park helped put both Canadian sleds in the top ten with a tenth place effort.
Hunter Williams finished 15th as the lone American in the field.
