From Park City, USA
(December 16, 2022) – Germany’s Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken won their second straight race of the season as the took gold in Park City.
The Germany duo was in search of their 53rd World Cup gold medal, and entered the second heat .038 behind World Cup point leaders Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf. On their second run, Eggert and Benecken set the quick downtime of the race to take a .078 lead ahead of teammates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt with only the Austrians to go.
On their second run, Gatt and Schöpf put down a very clean run, but couldn’t quite find the speed that the Germans had and fell to second as they crossed the finish line.
Eggert and Benecken’s gold evened them up with Gatt and Schöpf in the World Cup points with the Sprint World Cup yet to go on Saturday. Wendl and Arlt sit third overall.
In the race, USA’s Zach Digregorio and Sean Hollander finished fourth, a season best finish. Austria’s Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller finished 5th, leapfrogging Italy’s Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner for the position. The Italian duo finished sixth.
Canada’s Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski finished 15th.
