From Igls, AUT
(December 10, 2022) – Latvia’s Emils Cipulis won his first ever IBSF gold medal with a dominant one-run race performance in Igls.
Cipulis’s squad gave him the quickest start off the top, and the Latvian drove his sled to the fastest split at every split along the run on his way to a .35 second victory over Germany’s Nico Semmler.
Cipulis has many silver medals to his name, but this win was his first in either two-man or four-man.
Semmler finished second, while Latvia’s Jakabs Kalenda won his first ever medal with a bronze, .51 behind his teammate.
Kalenda edged out Max Illmann by .03 to win that bronze, with Illmann in fourth. Timo Roner was only .02 behind Illmann in fifth, while Czechia’s Dominik Dvorak finished sixth.
Great Britain’s Adam Baird and Nick Gleeson finished 17th and 19th, respectively.
The race was held to one heat due to heavy snow falling in the Igls area.
