From Igls, AUT
(December 9, 2022) – Germany’s Maureen Zimmer slid to her first monobob gold medal of the 2022/2023 European Cup season, beating out Qing Ying for the win.
Zimmer was edged out in the first heat by Bree Walker of Australia in the first run. Walker, however, did not take a second run and was scored with a DNS. That gave Zimmer both the quickest starts in both heats and the fastest run of the second heat to win her first career senior-level monobob gold medal. She’d previously won a Junior World Championship in Igls in January.
China’s Ying finished second, a career-best in the single-seater, while Romania’s Andreea Grecu finished third.
Australia’s Sarah Blizzard finished fourth, up from sixth in the first heat. She put down the second quickest run of the second heat for a career-best monobob finish.
China’s Mingming Huai and Swiss pilot Martina Fontanive rounded out the top six.
British rookies Adele Nicoll and Mica Moore finished 11th and 16th, respectively.
