Röttig Leads German 1-2 in Bludenz

From Bludenz, AUT

(December 3, 2022) – Germany’s Stefan Röttig held off Ludwig Mannhardt and Daniel Barefoot to win his second straight race in Bludenz.

Röttig entered the second heat in a tie with USA’s Daniel Barefoot. While Röttig had the biggest two pushes of the competition, Barefoot drove his way into the tie for the lead from .12 back off the top.

On the second run, Germany’s Ludwig Mannhardt put down a strong second run to move into the lead with Barefoot and Röttig to go. Barefoot was next, and had another solid run going, but some late trouble placed him just .03 behind Mannhardt and in the medals, but out of contention for gold.

That left Röttig, whose 4.17 start was the fastest of the race. He was the quickest at every split in the second run and finished a commanding .47 ahead of Mannhardt for his second straight gold.

The gold was the fourth European Cup gold for Röttig in his career, while the silver for Mannhardt was the first of his career despite ten straight races with a top six finish.

For Daniel Barefoot, the bronze was his second medal on the European Cup season and third top four.

Manuel Schwärzer finished fourth for Italy, .1 off of the podium. Germany’s Cedric Renner finished fifth, tying Swiss slider Vinzenz Buff.

Great Britain entered three sliders in the race, and placed all three in the back half of the top 20. Ronnie Wells and Patrick Atkin tied for 12th, while Kane Densley finished 18th.

USA’s Hunter Williams missed out on a second run in 24th.
