From Bludenz, AUT
(December 2, 2022) – USA’s Mystique Ro won the first ever European Cup women’s skeleton race on the new track in Bludenz, Austria, beating out a pair of young Brits to take gold.
Ro had the quick start in the first heat and opened up a .19 second advantage over Great Britain’s Tabitha Stoecker. On the second run, Stoecker’s teammate Freya Tarbit set the fast time of the heat to move up from fourth to third. Stoecker was able to put down another solid run to hold onto her spot. But it was Ro with a second strong start and a quick slide who was able to take the win, .27 ahead of Stoecker and .34 aheaed of Tarbit.
The win for Ro was her third between European Cup and Intercontinental Cup races. For Stoecker, the silver medal was her first ever EC medal, while Tarbit’s bronze was her third straight to start the season.
Italy’s Alessandra Fumagalli finished fourth, with Germany’s Viktoria Hansova in fifth. Estonia’s Darta Zunte finished sixth.
Great Britain put all four of their women in the top 11, with Ashlyn Bland in eighth and Eleanor Griffin tied for 11th with Siji Song of China.
USA’s Michelle Toukan finished 14th.
The track in Bludenz measures at around 700 meters and is the shortest course on tour. The top four women in the race all had the top four push times in both heats.
