From Altenberg, GER
(November 29, 2022) – Bree Walker won her second straight Altenberg European Cup monobob gold medal, edging out Andreea Grecu to take gold.
Walker carried a .12 second advantage over Grecu into the second heat of competition. Grecu’s second run turned out to be the best run of the heat and was enough to put her into the lead with only Walker to go. Walker was out-started by Grecu off the top, and while her second run was off Grecu’s pace, she had enough in the first run to edge out the Romanian for gold.
It was Walker’s second straight gold, while the silver for Grecu was her third medal in four races. Grecu has yet to finish outside of the top four in the 2022/2023 season.
China’s Qing Ying finished third for her first medal of the season, up from fourth in the first heat. Germany’s Maureen Zimmer and Romania’s Georgeta Popescu rounded out the top six.
Australia’s Sarah Blizzard finished tenth, while Great Britain’s Adele Nicoll crashed in her first heat and did not take a second run.
