From Park City, USA
(November 21, 2022) – Brendan Doyle was the class of the field on Monday’s North American Cup race in Park City as he cruised to his first career IBSF gold medal.
The Irish slider set the fastest two times of the race on his way to a .48 second victory over Israel’s Jared Firestone on a track where his previous best finishes had all come.
During the 2020/2021 season, Doyle had finished with two silvers and a bronze behind American sliding legend John Daly. This time the day belonged to him, as the gold medal was Doyle’s first in 59 starts sliding internationally.
Firestone’s silver was his third straight dating back to the 2021/2022 season where he scored two silvers (and a bronze) in Lake Placid.
Like their women’s skeleton team, Canada’s men had a strong showing with David Park finishing third for his best finish in eight races, and Kyle Donsberger tied his best ever finish with a fourth place run.
Akwasi Frimpong of Ghana finished a solid fifth, while Czechia’s Sebastian Zeleznik rounded out the top six.
Ryan Kuehn finished seventh and Jeremiah Huo 12th to complete Canada’s strong race.
The United States trotted out a team of young sliders in Park City. Bradley Nicol finished 10th, his best finish of his five starts. Teammate Nick Tucker threw down the second quickest start of the first heat on his way to an 11th place finish in his first career race.
Darryl Payne finished 13th and Andrew Whittier-Neises 15th to round out the American effort. The race was the fifth for Payne and the first for Whittier Neises.
